The Best Brands to Resell from Charity Shops & Car Boots

The brands that consistently sell for more than they cost — and the ones that usually aren't worth it.

Updated 3 October 2026

Knowing a handful of brands well beats knowing a little about hundreds. The brands below have three things in common: buyers search for them by name, they’re built to last, and they regularly turn up second-hand for far less than they resell for.

Prices vary with condition, model and season — always check recent sold listings before you buy. Each brand links to a full resale guide.

Outdoor & heritage clothing

These are the most reliable earners for UK resellers, especially from September to February.

Brand Why it sells Typical used price (UK)
Barbour Wax jackets last decades; huge UK demand £30–£120 (wax jackets)
Patagonia Cult fleeces, light to post £25–£120
The North Face Nuptse puffers and fleeces £20–£170
Arc’teryx Premium technical shells £50–£300
Carhartt Workwear loved by streetwear buyers £20–£150

Premium & designer

Higher prices, higher risk — fakes are common, so learn the authentication checks first.

  • Stone Island — overshirts, knitwear and jackets; check the badge and Certilogo code.
  • Burberry — trench coats and cashmere scarves.
  • AllSaints — leather biker jackets are the standout.
  • Ralph Lauren — knitwear, vintage and RRL are worth far more than basic polos.

Denim, footwear & sportswear

  • Levi’s — vintage and Made in USA pairs; modern jeans sell for less.
  • Dr. Martens — durable boots that sell in most sizes.
  • Nike — vintage 90s sportswear and sought-after trainers.
  • Lululemon — leggings and jackets with a loyal fan base.

Beyond clothing

Don’t walk past the homeware and toy shelves:

  • Le Creuset — cast-iron casseroles are expensive new and hold value.
  • LEGO — sets, minifigures and even mixed bulk.
  • Nintendo — retro and Pokémon games, especially boxed and complete.
  • Cameras, vinyl records, retro electronics and quality tools are worth learning about too.

Brands that are usually not worth it

Fast-fashion labels rarely resell for more than a few pounds, so the profit doesn’t cover your time. Unless the item is new with tags or part of a bundle, it’s usually better to skip:

  • Most supermarket and budget high-street own brands
  • Ultra-fast-fashion online brands
  • Heavily worn basics from any brand

How to get better at spotting brands

  1. Pick five brands from this list and learn their labels, best models and price ranges.
  2. Check sold listings for every promising item — see how to check sold prices.
  3. Use the numbers. Run the price through the resale value calculator so you know your walk-away price before you reach the till.
