eBay fees explained
UK private sellers
Since October 2024, private sellers on eBay.co.uk pay no final value fee and no per-order fee on most domestic sales. Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee instead. Optional extras like promoted listings still cost money if you use them.
UK business sellers
Business sellers pay a final value fee on the total amount the buyer pays, including postage — around 12.9% in most categories (some, like tech or jewellery, differ) — plus a per-order fee and a small regulatory operating fee, with VAT charged on top of eBay's fees.
US sellers
On eBay.com, most categories have a final value fee of around 13.25% of the total sale (item, shipping and sales tax), plus a $0.30–$0.40 per-order fee. Store subscriptions lower the percentage in many categories. Switch the calculator to US $ to use US fees.
Postage on eBay
On eBay you usually set the postage price yourself, and you buy the label. Enter what the buyer pays you for postage and what it costs you — if you offer "free" postage, put 0 for what the buyer pays and your real cost for postage cost. For business sellers, remember fees are charged on postage too.
eBay vs Vinted for resellers
eBay reaches a wider audience for non-clothing items — electronics, cameras, collectibles, tools, games — and is often better for higher-value pieces. Vinted tends to win for everyday clothing. Compare all the fees side by side in our marketplace fees guide.
